- Ryan Browne makes amazing absurdist comics with a wicked sense of humor. And the guy can also draw his a$$ off.
If you're burned out on superhero comics (or even if you're not, really), GHA offers a nice change of pace from the world of mainstream comics-as-usual. So much weird, ingenious fun to be found here you're better off just diving in and disappearing into the GHA universe than doing a ton of research. I mean, you're HERE on the page. Just click the button and buy the volumes already. Soon some nondescript delivery guy will be dropping these off on your front porch and, if your neighbors don't steal them, you'll soon be kicked back in a comfortable chair of some sort laughing yourself silly. What could possibly be wrong with that?
I originally got turned onto Browne's stuff by a friend who knew how crazy I was over Ethan Nicolle's Axe Cop, and GHA was a perfect adult-minded comic to follow my adventures with the mustachioed one. - If you like your superheroes deconstructed and absurd, God Hates Astronauts is your giraffe! Ryan Browne's colorful art has a warm & organic edge even as it spills into the cosmic side of its unhinged universe. It's like Steve Gerber, Bob Burden & Salvador Dali had a baby & named it Emperor Tiger Eating Cheeseburger.
This satirical series has such a distinct flavor, you are gonna know pretty quick if it is for you. I bought in digital form and just had to have it in paperback! - It's hard to put it into words, but it's such a good read.
